Willett and Stenson give Padraig nudge
DANNY WILLETT and Henrik Stenson staked late claims for Ryder Cup wild cards yesterday.
Stenson shot 67 to share the first-round lead at the Czech Masters in Prague, playing with Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harringon.
And 2016 Masters champion Willett carded a four-under-par 68 and said: “It’d be amazing to be on the team.” But Patrick Reed withdrew from the Northern Trust with an ankle injury to put his place in the US team in doubt.
❑ ENGLISH hope Georgia Hall is a shot off the lead after a 68 in the first round of the Women’s Open.
Her playing partner, Scottish amateur Louise Duncan, matched the score.
