United vow to support legend

European Cup-winning squad to have been diagnosed with the condition.

A United statement said: “Denis Law will always be one of this club’s greatest legends and everybody at Manchester United sends our love and best wishes to him and his family.

“Our fans will also rally behind him. We will continue to offer whatever support we can.” Law’s revelation will increase calls for more research into the link between dementia and heading the ball, with many players from the Sixties and Seventies having been diagnosed with the condition.

As well as Law and Bobby Charlton, their United team-mates Nobby Stiles, Bill Foulkes, David Herd and Tony Dunne were diagnosed with dementia and have since died.
