Harry’s back in the saddle

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

PRINCE Harry reigned again in his first public appearance since daughter Lilibet was born in June.

The Duke of Sussex scored two goals in his polo team’s 3-0 victory in the Sentebale tournament that raised funds for his African charity.

The round-robin contest against two other sides at Colorado’s Aspen Valley Polo Club brought in almost £2.6million for Sentebale.

Harry, 36, was joined in the game by top Argentine player and Ralph Lauren model Nacho Figueras, who is an ambassador for the charity.

The Duke is giving £1.1million from proceeds of his upcoming memoir to Sentebale. He founded it with Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso in 2006 to help vulnerable children in south Africa hit by extreme poverty, inequality and the HIV/Aids epidemic.

Harry said: “This is one of several donations I plan to make to charitable organisations and I’m grateful to be able to give back in this way for the children and communities who gravely need it.”

The California-based Prince has been met by criticism over his memoir, due in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year of 2022, after a rift with the Royal Family and his decision with wife Meghan, 40, to quit their senior royal roles.

She appeared with him at the 2018 polo tournament, but it was cancelled last year due to Covid.

The charity said: “Sentebale, like many charities, has suffered financially because of the pandemic. To help meet this need, the Duke is donating his time as well as honouring his personal commitment to donate a portion of his proceeds.”
