MPs’ Afghan blame game
WE ALL woke up yesterday to pictures of Afghan babies being hurled over barbed wire fences by their desperate parents. We heard those parents pleading with soldiers to take care of them because they fear that thanks to the trigger-happy Taliban they won’t be around to. We’ve seen soldiers in tears cradling those babes as they push their way through hordes of screaming Afghans who are literally fighting for their lives.
And while this humanitarian catastrophe unfolds before the eyes of a sickened world, what are OUR politicians doing?
Aaah, yes, they’re playing the blame game, trying to make political capital on the backs of dead and dying people.
Labour’s Lisa Nandy slated the Government for the withdrawal of U.S. and UK troops yet just last month she said Britain’s military presence in Afghanistan had “outlived its usefulness”.
Make your mind up, luv. Do you actually care about the Afghans or just about sticking it to Boris?
The idiot Keir Starmer’s no better, accusing the Government of complacency about the Taliban threat and trying to blame Boris for everything.
Gobby windbag Ian Blackford, the SNP leader in Westminster, piled in and ludicrously said ALL the failures in Afghanistan rest on Boris and Dominic Raab’s shoulders.
ALL of them understood the threat of the Taliban but none of them did or said a damn thing about it until this week which makes them 24-carat phonies trying to look like they give a toss.
OK, Raab, who by all accounts is a bit of a lazy article, should have been here, not on a sunbed in Crete. But let’s talk about sacking him later – once people have been evacuated from Kabul. Because that’s what needs to be done now.
We said we’d take 1,000 people a day out of the city but on Thursday we took just 500. Why? And why aren’t we getting those translators out who risked their lives to help us? Sod the red tape just get them on a plane and sort out the paperwork later otherwise they’ll be tortured and murdered – which will be on us.
Shamefully Britain has said it’ll take just 5,000 Afghan refugees this year. Sod that too. You guys know I’m dead against economic migrants flooding into Britain pretending to be fleeing oppression and torture. But these Afghans really ARE fleeing oppression and torture, and theWest is responsible for it.
But no, all politicians here are bothered about is screaming: “Your Fault!” at any passing Tory.
They’re shamefully shouting about the number of British soldiers who died in Afghanistan, politicising their deaths to score points.
They’re handwringing, they’re grandstanding, they’re sniping but actually doing beggar all. Which shows that when the chips are down our political class is useless, gutless and ineffectual.
OUR politicians need to stop scrapping like yard dogs and start getting more Afghans out of Kabul – 500 a day is pitiful. They need to get homes ready for them here that aren’t the kind of dirty holes you wouldn’t keep a dog in.
And those of you who don’t think we should be helping these poor people, just think tonight when you’re having dinner with your husbands/wives/families, when you’re in a restaurant or having fun with your friends.
Just remember that until last week the Afghans were doing the same. This week 12-year-old girls are being raped and sold into marriage. Men and women are being shot, tarred and tortured in the streets.
Just think about them when you slip in between your sheets tonight and tell yourselves we shouldn’t be helping them.
Yes, the idiot Joe Biden, who appears to have totally lost his marbles, is the architect of this humanitarian catastrophe.
But that’s all the more reason why our politicians must now help the Afghan people – otherwise what’s the bloody point of them?
