WHEN IT COMES TO READING, WRITING AND SPELLING PRINCESS B, DYSLEXIA IS NO ‘GIFT’

-

PRINCESS Beatrice, who’s dyslexic, says if her unborn child is “lucky enough” to be diagnosed with it she’ll see it “as a gift”.

What privileged, New Age drivel! Why would any mother wish a learning difficulty on her child, one that routinely causes anxiety, anger and depression?

I’m sorry but Beatrice really needs to check herself here. A learning difficulty that engenders crippling fear and stops many children wanting to go to school isn’t a gift.

Beatrice was lucky. She was diagnosed at seven and got the best help available.

Many thousands of children spend years struggling to read, write, spell and even talk. And no – there’s nothing lucky about that.

Dyslexic kids and adults have to work harder at almost everything but especially careers – something ten-holidays-a-year Bea’s never had to worry about. If her child is diagnosed with dyslexia, he/she will get the best help available but it still won’t be easy. And it sure as hell won’t be easy for kids who don’t have the cash or the connections of a royal princess!
