My pretty party peacemaker
RTRIBUTES continue to flow after the sad death of the irreplaceable Una Stubbs. Una was briefly a roving reporter for This Morning when Judy and I were at the helm. As a schoolboy I’d had quite a crush on her when she starred in the edgy and groundbreaking sitcom Till Death Us Do Part, so I was thrilled when she was on our team.
At a programme Christmas party, I asked her about the controversy that still swirled around Till Death and its racist, foul-mouthed centrepiece Alf Garnett.
Una, right, sighed patiently. “Alf always lost the argument. ALWAYS. His stupid prejudices were comprehensively defeated, week after week after week.” Indeed. It would be great to see an episode repeated now as a tribute to her.
