The Worst Witch’s Jill dies at 72
THE Worst Witch author Jill Murphy has died aged 72 from cancer.
The writer and illustrator, best known for her classic children’s books about witch Mildred Hubble, as well as Five Minutes’ Peace, died in a Cornwall hospital.
Her son Charlie said: “I feel beyond lucky to have had a mum like mine. She had a depth of character, a warmth and a life force like no other.”
Pamela Todd, Jill’s agent for three decades, said: “Her genius lay in the way both the child and the adult could identify with her stories.”
She wrote The Worst Witch when she was 18.
