Proof times are tight...budgie smugglers make a comeback
BUDGIE smugglers are giving young men a lift – inspired by Olympic divers Tom Daley and Matty Lee.
A third of 18 to 30-year-olds have already taken the plunge and bought the skimpy swimwear which was last big in the Eighties.
And even more – around half – hope the micro trunks will become fashionable again so they can dip their toes in the trend.
It comes after Tom, 27, and Matty, 23, took gold last month in the synchronised 10m platform diving.
Only five per cent of British men aged 41-50 admit to wearing the Speedo-style cossies. Yet they topped a poll of favourite male swimwear, with three in 10 of all ages thinking they are the best.
They even beat the tight mid-blue shorts worn by James Bond star Daniel Craig in Casino Royale as he walked out of the sea.
The survey of 2,000 men was commissioned by hotel booking site hoo, which recently created a line of limited-edition neon trunks called Junx. The first batch of the £14.99 swimwear sold out within 48 hours.
Duncan McKenna, of hoo, has ordered more.
He said: “We hope to alleviate some of the stresses that tourists face during their beach or poolside trips.”
