Dresden Suspension Railway, Germany
To use the overused word, this is unique. The Dresden Schwebebahn, which has carriages hanging from an elevated track, is the world’s only suspended funicular and links the districts of Loschwitz and Oberloschwitz in the historic capital of Saxony.
The 899ft track rises 276ft, and the system has just marked its 120th anniversary.
Unlike much of Dresden, it was not damaged in the Second World War but was closed between 1984 and 1992 for a major refurbishment.
