Montmartre Funicular, Paris
OK, so it’s not really a funicular as the trains are not counterbalanced and can operate independently, plus it only rises 118ft on a 354ft track up to the wonderful Sacré-Coeur Basilica, but we like it.
The original system was water-driven and opened in 1900, so it took passengers from l’eau to high!
