Lee playing for keeps after six-year delay
LEE NICHOLLS is determined to grab his Championship chance after waiting six years and overcoming Covid-19.
The Huddersfield goalkeeper had his first game in the second tier since May 2015 in the 1-0 win over Preston on Tuesday.
Nicholls, 28, joined on a free from MK Dons last month, and tested positive for coronavirus just two days before the start of the league season.
“It was heartbreaking,” he said. “I knew I’d miss two games. I’m just happy to be back now. Preston was a clean sheet and the ideal game for me. It’s just about playing minutes now.” Nicholls thought he had made the breakthrough when he had nine games for Wigan in 2013.
“From then on I didn’t get the opportunity I’d have liked,” he said. “I’m here now and am relishing it.” Wes Foderingham will be in the other goal for the derby as Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic alternates his keepers after Aaron Ramsdale’s move to Arsenal. Michael Verrips was in goal as they lost 4-0 to West Brom and Jokanovic said: “I’ll give both two games.”
