MPs should put a brave face on new Covid freedoms
ISN’T IT funny how the news agenda changes so rapidly?
The remainers who moaned about us leaving the European dictatorship seem to have given up. And thank goodness the anti-vaxxers, some of whom were sending me death threats, seem to have disappeared.
But, as more Covid rules were lifted last week, I was confused to see so many MPs sitting in the House of Commons still wearing masks.
Virtue-signalling in politics is not a good look. And it appeared to be politically imposed. Most of those sitting there with rather stupid masks seemed to me to be Labour and Opposition MPs.
Most of the Government side were not wearing them. At least they’ve got something right.
Surely the MPs wearing masks must know how silly they look. Masks are not mandatory any more.
In fact, talking to those people who know better than me, there is evidence that mask wearing doesn’t really do you any good whatsoever, so why on earth would politicians continue to do it?
Our MPs have enough bridge building to do already about the mistakes that have been made recently over Afghanistan.
LAST WEEK I watched with interest the Parliamentary debate about Afghanistan and it made me realise just how ignorant and devoid of world knowledge some of our MPs are, including members of the front bench.
My nomination for the most boring speaker ever goes to the leader of the SNP, Ian Blackford. He is smugness personified. I wonder if he ever watches himself? Surely he must be embarrassed.
However, one of the most moving speeches I’ve ever seen came from the MP Tom Tugendhat (above).
I know him to be a man who believes deeply in what he is doing, after serving as a soldier in Afghanistan for a number of tours.
Well done, mate. If only there were more politicians who came from varying backgrounds rather than from the ranks of political advisors, this country would be better off and so would the world.
