Deputy head accused of aiding in rape of a child

A DEPUTY headteache­r at a primary school has been charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a girl under 13.

Julie Morris, 44, is accused alongside David Morris, 52, who allegedly raped the child.

Ms Morris has worked at St George’s Central Church of England Primary School for 10 years.

She is accused of facilitati­ng the rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity with a child.

The teacher, of Hindley, Wigan, appeared in court and been remanded in custody. She has also been suspended from her job byWigan Council.

David Morris, 52, of Eccleston, near St Helens on Merseyside, who is not related or married to Ms Morris, is accused of carrying out the assault.

Headteache­r Mark Grogan wrote to parents informing them of what had happened and described the allegation­s as “distressin­g”. He added: “It is important to emphasise the charges in relation to the alleged offences are not connected with our school.”

Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm two people have been charged with child sex offences alleged to have taken place in Eccleston.

“David Morris has been charged with three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and causing and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. Julie Morris has been charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity with a child under 13. Julie Morris is employed in the education sector inWigan.

“We are working with Greater Manchester Police and Wigan Council to ensure adequate safeguardi­ng measures are in place. The offences for which she has been charged are not related to her employment in Wigan.”

Both defendants are due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on October 4.
