FELLOWSHIP OF THE WOKE OUT TO DROP WINSTON

I INITIALLY thought I had misheard this, but the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, the charity that looks after the memory of Sir Winston Churchill – probably the greatest leader of the last century – has decided to rename itself the Churchill Fellowship.

Apparently they think using the name “Winston” confuses people.What the heck are these people talking about? It seems the other “W” word is coming up again – woke.They’re trying to airbrush our history and seem to be frightened of the past.

All of us have things we probably regret: certainly all nations and probably most politicians too.Yet some people, usually middle-class, think that they can change the past.

How stupid.To do this to the memory of a man who saved us from the Nazis is just wrongheaded. I suggest they change their minds and that Sir Nicholas Soames, grandson of Churchill and former Member of Parliament, stops giving them support.

These people need to be held to account. I’m confused – not about the nameWinston – but about the people who run the so-called Churchill Fellowship.
