Rays of hope for longer Indian summer
THESE golden rays of sunshine yesterday herald a return of some summery weather this week.
Above-average temperatures for the time of year are expected in parts of England by the middle of the week, especially in the South and East.
The North and West, where this photo was taken at dawn yesterday at Glastonbury Tor in Somerset, are likely to have some cloud and rain today before they enjoy a bit of sunshine, too.
The mercury is expected to climb to around 72F (22C) by the middle of the week in the South, easily topping September’s daily average high of 64F (18C).
Today, light rain and a gentle breeze in the North will be accompanied by 61F (16C) temperatures.
The South will have light cloud cover and will be slightly warmer at 66F (19C).
Forecasters at The Weather Outlook said: “During Tuesday many places remain dry, but there will be some showery outbreaks of rain.
“They are most likely in the North and West of the UK.
“Wednesday looks set to bring scattered showers and sunny spells.
“In southern and eastern England, it becomes quite warm. Then Thursday is expected to be mainly dry. Southern counties probably have the brightest and warmest conditions.
“Later in the day there is a risk of rain feeding into the North-west.”
