It’s going to be a hull of a Christmas this year!

- By Andrew Young

THE world’s biggest container ship has arrived in the UK for the first time – and it was loaded with Christmas presents.

The 1,312ft Ever Ace was carrying Chinesemade goods.

And fortunately it did not meet the same fate as its little sister ship, the Ever Given, which got stuck in the Suez Canal in March. Built by Samsung last year for Taiwan shipper Evergreen Marine, the Ace is longer than the 1,265ft Empire State Building and the 1,063ft Eiffel Tower are high.

The Panama-registered ship, weighing 235,579 tons, is nearly the size of four football pitches.

It docked at the Port of Felixstowe, Suffolk, yesterday after cruising up the River Orwell.

Ever Ace can carry 23,992 containers – 26 more than the world’s previous largest container ship, HMM Algeciras.

If placed end to end, the Ever Ace’s full load of 20ft containers would stretch for almost 91 miles.

It can carry 530 million mobile phones, 9.6 million flat screen TVs or 2.4 million washing machines.

Boat-spotter Dean Cable, 28, from Eye, called the sight “mind-boggling”, adding: “That’s a lot of Christmas presents.”
