NET-ZERO SHIPPING IS FULL SPEED AHEAD

-

SHIPPING chiefs today urge the sector to aim for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

International rules require the industry to halve 2008’s levels – but the UK Chamber of Shipping wants the International Maritime Organisation to double that.

Bob Sanguinetti, its chief executive, said: “We need to show the world we mean business. The shipping industry is one of the cleanest ways of moving goods around the world, but we know we need to do more.”

What ministers call the greenest-ever London International Shipping Week opens today. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said there would be “green Channel crossings within a decade”.
