Auba joy as fans get back on side
ARSENAL 1 NORWICH 0
MATCHWINNER Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was serenaded by fans chanting his name as he gave touchline interviews after his late goal sank Norwich.
Aubameyang scored only 10 league goals last season – his lowest return in a decade – after averaging 30 a season in the two previous full campaigns.
But the Arsenal captain was back in favour after his winner broke the Gunners’ duck following 336 minutes of barren scavenging.
Aubameyang said: “It was a tough game but everyone gave everything on the pitch. Maybe we could be more clinical, because we had a lot of chances at the end, but the most important thing today is three points, and we did it.
“We needed the fans here for a long time. When you’re a player, it gives a lot of energy, even when it’s tough.”
Relieved manager Mikel Arteta said: “I don’t think I did a lot in the last 10 to 15 days – and what I did probably was against myself because you’re upset with yourself, you are angry, you are tired. You just want to hit yourself.”
