- By John Twomey

THE grandmother of a five-year-old boy stabbed to death at his home is believed to have been arrested and detained.

David-Mario Lazar, known to family and friends as Mario, was found bleeding to death on Tuesday.

Police said David-Mario suffered “multiple injuries”.

Yesterday, West Midlands Police said: “A 49-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of David-Mario’s murder has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

“She is known to the family and David-Mario was in her care at the time of the incident.”

Police have not publicly identified the woman but it is believed she is Elena Anghel.

Neighbours described hearing the boy’s horrified mother frantically shouting, “My child! My child! Call the police!’ as she ran to a nearby Co-op store for help.

His heartbroken parents last night paid tribute to the “most beautiful child in the world”.

Cristina and Dorinel Lazar described David-Mario as a “very

happy boy who loved to dance and sing.”

They were both at work when he was killed at the family’s home in Earlsdon, Coventry.

It is understood Mrs Lazar returned to find him fatally wounded.

Police and paramedics fought to save his life but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The devastated

couple said in a statement: “Our son, he was the most beautiful child in the world.

“He was a very happy boy. He was always smiling from when he woke up to when he went to sleep.

“He had so much energy. He loved to dance and sing.

“He is all of our hearts, all our love and is everything to both of us.” The terraced property remained sealed off yesterday while officers continued to carry out extensive forensic examinations.

Supt Ronan Tyrer, from Coventry Police, said: “Our investigation continues into the desperately sad death of David-Mario.

“Our specialist officers are supporting his parents and we cannot comprehend the grief they must feel. “Our thoughts are with them. “David-Mario’s school has been informed and they are contacting parents and carers of their pupils.

Shocked

“The community is shocked and saddened by this young boy’s death.

“We continue to urge people to avoid speculation on social media or share posts which could ultimately add to the family’s distress.”

Stunned relatives paid their own tributes to David-Mario calling him “the happiest boy I’ve ever seen in my life.”

One said: “He was no trouble, never. He was such a good boy.

“He loved going to school, learning and developing skills and talking about his friends from the school. “He was a brilliant child.

“His parents are devastated.”
