Nurse gaslit partner in legal battle over child
A MENTAL health nurse used “gaslighting” abuse to make his partner believe she was “mentally unstable”, a High Court judge said.
The man “repeatedly alleged that the mother suffered from bipolar disorder”, it was found.
The judge also concluded the man had “forced himself” on the woman for sex, “uncaring whether she was consenting or not”.
Mr Justice Cobb had been asked to make findings about the unnamed pair, who are now separated, after a dispute over their child.
He said: “The father’s conduct represented a form of insidious abuse designed to cause the mother to question her own mental wellbeing, indeed her sanity.”
The Family Division judge had reconsidered the case after the woman, in her late 20s, successfully appealed decisions made at a family court hearing.
