HORNETS RIGHT TO TINKER

-

WATFORD’S move to appoint Roy Hodgson, 74, to replace Claudio Ranieri, 70, as manager at least shows ageism is not an issue at Vicarage Road.

It is rough on Ranieri – and you wonder how many more jobs there will be in football for ‘The Tinkerman’ – but for once the triggerhappy Pozzos, who own the club, are justified in following through on their ravenous appetite for change. When the Premier League resumes for Watford on February 5 with a critical game at Burnley, Hodgson, above, will have the players organised for the survival scrap ahead. Bored maybe, but organised.

The football will not win many Turner Prizes, but Watford are in a streetfight now, not an art show.
