Stevie glee after Calum opts for Villa
CALUM CHAMBERS is determined to get his career back on track after quitting Arsenal for Aston Villa.
The defender has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Steven Gerrard’s side.
Capped three times by England, the 27-year-old only made five appearances for the Gunners this season and called the move a “no-brainer”.
Chambers, previously loaned to Middlesbrough and Fulham, said: “It was a chance to really kick on in my career.
“I can’t wait to get training, playing and in amongst it. I am extremely excited.
“It is a massive club and they are in a great moment.Things are happening here and the club is moving in the right direction.”
Chambers joins fellow new boys Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Robin Olsen and young defender Kerr Smith, 17.
Gerrard is also chasing Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur for £16million to replace the injured Marvelous Nakamba.
Ashley Young has become the latest star to reject Newcastle after telling Gerrard he wants to stay at Villa this month.
Gerrard is a big admirer of the former England international’s versatility and professionalism.
He can use the 36-year-old on either flank at the back or higher up the pitch.
