Crunch day for Lampard and Pereira

- By Chris McKenna

FRANK LAMPARD and Vitor Pereira will have final interviews today before Everton decide on their new manager.

Portuguese Pereira, 53, remains in serious contention, but Chelsea legend Lampard, 43, now has a great opportunity to land the job.

It is understood Lampard held further talks with owner Farhad Moshiri and the board yesterday.

The Toffees want to make a decision on Rafa Benitez’s successor before the weekend.

Pereira has received a huge backlash from fans who spraypainted a wall at Goodison Park with ‘Pereira out, Lampard in’.

But he insists he still wants the job and tried to sell himself in a bizarre live TV interview on Wednesday afternoon. Everton fans remain unimpressed and they held further protests against Moshiri and the club’s board outside Goodison Park that night.

Lampard, sacked 12 months ago by Chelsea, is eager to get back into management and believes he can reignite Everton.

The club are under pressure to make a decision as the transfer window closes on Monday.

Caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson will also get a chance to speak with Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright as the club go through their shortlist.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has been ruled out for four weeks with a groin injury.
