EXETER CHIEFS are to ditch their Native American logo after complaints from indigenous groups in the United States.
The Premiership club will replace the headdress image, above, on July 1 with a helmeted warrior depicting the Dumnonii tribe who lived in the area 2,000 years ago, following the protests over cultural appropriation.
However, Exeter have stopped short of following the likes of American Football team Washington Redskins – now known as just Washington – with a name change.
Exeter chairman Tony Rowe said: “There’s no reason whatsoever why we should change the name Chiefs. It’s used as a slang word for the boss and Exeter rugby are the chiefs of Devon.
