QUIDS IN WITH RAIN

-

Too much rain on your staycation? Just splash out on travel insurance to cover it!

Brits on holiday at home in the 1950s could buy ‘pluvius’ cover in case “excessive rainfall” ruined their time away.

The policy was available from Aviva and even offered extra cover for west coast resorts known for being a bit soggy.

The insurer took a look through its archives and also found a packing checklist which included coat hangers, handkerchiefs, shoe trees, braces and “field glasses” for men, and advised women to take needles, cotton and three types of lingerie for evening, day and night.

Aviva, which can trace its history back to 1696, also found that in the 1930s its baggage policy excluded cover for typewriters, and by the 1960s it was declining to insure sewing machines taken on holiday.
