Queen is on road to recovery as she takes phone call with Boris

- By Russell Myers

THE Queen is recovering from her bout of Covid and managed to hold her weekly audience with the Prime Minister yesterday.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Her Majesty spoke on the phone with Boris Johnson.

The 95-year-old monarch continues to have mild symptoms after testing positive for coronavirus on Sunday and is isolating atWindsor Castle.

A number of palace staff who work and care for the Queen are understood to have been hit by the virus in the past few days.

Concerns for Britain’s longest reigning monarch have been heightened, given her age and health scares which included an overnight stay in hospital last October to undergo tests and a back sprain the following month.

Quarantine

Buckingham Palace had insisted the Queen, who is triple vaccinated, would continue light duties at her desk.

However, she had to cancel two engagements via video link onTuesday after feeling under the weather.

She has been following Covid guidelines after testing positive.

But from today she would be freed from quarantine, with the legal duty to self-isolate ending.

The Queen holds an audience with Mr Johnson most Wednesdays, either in person or by phone and has been holding one or two remote diplomatic audiences a week with ambassadors.

She has a number of major engagements coming up next month.

She is expected to host a diplomatic reception on March 2, where she would meet hundreds of members of the Diplomatic Corps at Windsor, and is due to attend the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on March 14. The memorial service for her beloved husband Prince Philip takes place at the Abbey on March 29.

The Queen had been on doctors’ orders to rest since mid-October. She regularly uses a walking stick, telling two military officers last week: “As you can see, I can’t move.”
