Travel: Scotland’s Sacred Islands With Ben Fogle, BBC2, 7pm

Adventurer Ben Fogle returns to Taransay, the island he lived on for a year more than 20 years ago when he appeared on the reality television show Castaway 2000 (left). Ben takes a trip to Luskentyre Beach on Harris and catches up with local community members to learn how the island’s remoteness sustains the sanctity of the Protestant Sabbath. On the Isle of Harris, he meets a Muslim bio-chemist whose move there brought him closer to God.

Sense And Sensibility, Film4, 6.15pm

Oscar-winning period romantic drama, based on Jane Austen’s classic novel of the same name. Emma Thompson (above, right) wrote the screenplay and also stars in the film alongside Kate Winslet (above, left). The plot tells the story of the wealthy Dashwood sisters, who are disinherited following the death of their father and find that their reduced circumstances have an adverse effect on their romantic aspirations.

Film: The King’s Speech, BBC4, 9pm

Oscar-winning historical drama based on the true story of how King George VI overcame a debilitating stammer. As part of his royal duties, Prince Albert is required to speak at public events, a task made all the more difficult by his stammer. The death of his father, King George V, and subsequent abdication of his older brother means that “Bertie” is to be crowned king. Unconventional speech therapist Lionel Logue is enlisted to help the future George VI find his voice – and despite Logue’s disregard for all things stately, the two men form an unlikely bond. Directed by Tom Hooper, this 2010 film features Geoffrey Rush, Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter (both left).

One of the most renowned actors of his generation, Sir Ian McKellen (above, right) has long defied convention and expectation. He’s starred in more than 55 films in a career that spans six decades. Here, journalist Amol Rajan (above, left) asks the star about growing up in Lancashire during the Second World War, starting his acting career at Cambridge, and finally revealing the truth publicly about his sexuality.

Reality: The Apprentice, BBC1, 9pm

This week, the remaining candidates sell products to the nation via a leading TV shopping channel in a one-hour prime-time slot. However, one team member’s failure to charm the head buyer sees them miss out on the highvalue star item, while the selection of some niche goods means sales aren’t going as planned for the other side. Once on air both teams struggle with nerves. As usual, Lord Sugar’s sidekicks, Karren Brady and Tim Campbell (right), watch over the events that take place.
