Maddison urges Foxes to kick on after clean break
JAMES MADDISON predicts Leicester’s slump will end after their first clean sheet away in the Premier League in a year.
The Foxes got their first top-flight victory of 2022 with a 2-0 win at Burnley on Tuesday.
Maddison and fit-again JamieVardy both came off the bench to score in the win that lifts Brendan Rodgers’ side to 12th ahead of Leeds’ visit on Saturday.
It was their first shut-out on the road since February 7, 2021 at Wolves in a goalless draw.
Maddison, who has 12 goals this term, said: “It’s nice to get a win in the league away from home, and a clean sheet away from home.
“The gaffer said to us afterwards that it’s been a year since we had a clean sheet away from home.
“We’ve reiterated how important clean sheets are for confidence among the squad. Burnley is a tough place to come and get a clean sheet.
“A clean sheet, three points and two goals from impact substitutions shows the squad we’ve got, so it’s a really positive camp at the minute.
“The points are what gets you up the league – the goals, all that sort of stuff, comes from the base of the performance, and the performances have been better in recent weeks. Hopefully, we can build on that.”
Maddison made it three goals in his past two games after curling a left-foot shot into the corner from the edge of the area to open the scoring at Turf Moor in the 82nd minute.
He added: “I found myself in that pocket of space outside the box, which I love to be in. It was just about getting pace and guiding it into that far corner.”
