Jail for flytipper who charged to remove rubbish
A SERIAL flytipper has been jailed for almost two years after charging people for taking their rubbish, then dumping it in playgrounds and driveways.
Dean Stanley, 37, admitted 17 counts of fly-tipping between March 2019 and January 2020 in the south London boroughs of Hillingdon and Sutton, and in Buckinghamshire.
Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage caught Stanley using two Ford Transit tipper vans – one white, one red – to transport a wide array of household waste and leave it in open green spaces.
Flagrant
Three councils joined forces to bring an end to his “deliberate and flagrant” campaign.
Stanley, of Iver, Bucks, was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court to 21 months in jail for each of his 16 offences in Hillingdon and Buckinghamshire, to run concurrently. He was also sentenced to 14 months for the offence in Sutton, also to run concurrently. The court ordered that his white van be seized.
A second defendant, Bradley Caswell, 30, of Slough, Berks, was convicted of one count of fly-tipping in Long Lane, Uxbridge, alongside Stanley, in October 2019, at the same hearing.
He received a £500 fine, was ordered to pay £720 compensation, court costs of £500 and a court surcharge.
Cllr John Riley, Hillingdon Council’s cabinet member for public safety and transport, said the sentence serves as a “warning” to those looking “to turn the borough into a dumping ground”.
He said: “This is a fantastic piece of partnership working that has ended Mr Stanley’s campaign of contempt and utter disregard for the affected boroughs and their residents.
“Bringing flytippers to justice can be tricky for local authorities as they’ll often act under cover of darkness and won’t leave anything that identifies them.
“Mr Stanley was so driven by profiting from dumping waste, he let his guard down.
“We’re very grateful for the help of our colleagues in Sutton and Buckinghamshire and the residents who helped us make this case a success.”
