Factual: Michael Wood’s Story of England, BBC4, 8pm
In the final instalment the broadcaster explores the history of the village of Kibworth in Leicestershire, from the 19th century to the present day, including the Penny Concerts of the 1880s. He accompanies local children on a school trip to France, where the pupils commemorate relatives who died in the First World War. Wood also reveals the story of the Home Guard and the bombing of Kibworth in 1940, and how modern times arrived in the village.
Food: Inside Greggs: Britain’s Biggest Bakery, C5, 7pm
Documentary revealing some of the secrets of the successful high street bakery chain, offering a behindthe-scenes look at the products they sell, while meeting some of the staff who work in their stores. From the workers’ secret pastry codes to the story behind Greggs’ recent success, the vegan sausage roll, the programme gives viewers a fascinating insight.
Cooking: Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars, BBC1, 9pm
In the second episode of the series searching for a superstar entrepreneur, the famously acerbic chef takes his 11 contenders “back to basics” in order to test their raw skills and pure talent. First, he invites the entrepreneurs to a world-renowned artisan smoke salmon business in Hackney Wick in east London to see whether they can master traditional techniques against the clock. Next, Gordon challenges them to embrace the great outdoors by creating an incredible feast in the forest. By foraging for ingredients and cooking on open fires, can the competitors bring the woodland to the table and create an impressive foodie theatre for their paying guests?
