Wife ‘ordered her lover to murder wealthy husband’
Briton ‘strangled’ on Pakistan visit
A BRITISH woman is being held in a Pakistani jail after allegedly ordering her young lover to murder her wealthy husband in return for a new life in the UK.
Mohammad Farooq, 65, who owns properties and hotels in Britain and Pakistan, was strangled at the family’s home in a town near Rawalpindi, police believe.
His body was then driven to a rubbish dump around 27 miles away near Islamabad, where the car was set alight.
Yasmeen Kausar, 65, was arrested earlier this month and charged with hiring two men – including a 30-year-old handyman she promised to bring back to Britain – to kill her husband of more than 20 years.
Mr Farooq from Headingley, Leeds, travelled to Pakistan after the death of his younger brother.
His wife, who followed him, is alleged to have lured him to meet her on March 31 before he was strangled and killed. Pakistan-based lawyer Malik Shahnwar-Noon, who is representing some of Mr Farooq’s family, claimed Mrs Kausar told the handyman her relationship with her husband had deteriorated.
He claims she hatched a plot to kill Mr Farooq to gain access to his finances and property in Pakistan. Mrs Kausar, who insists she is not guilty, is in prison awaiting trial. And her son Sajid Bashir has begun a petition pleading her innocence and asking the British Government to monitor her welfare.
He wrote: “My mum suffers from Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension. Her legal representative has informed us of the physical and mental abuse she has had to endure. “We are obviously very concerned with what we are hearing as to her treatment so far. “She is clearly a vulnerable person who is isolated from her immediate family.”
A friend of Mr Farooq’s family – who did not wish to be named – said: “He did a lot for charity, he was very kind, considerate and humble. He was always joking. To be murdered in such a brutal way is just terrible.”
