Fewest errors will decide who goes fourth says Conte

- By Tony Banks

ANTONIO CONTE believes the team that clinches the final Champions League spot in the Premier League this season will be the one that makes the fewest errors.

The Tottenham manager takes his team to Brentford tomorrow having seen the gap between his side and chasers Arsenal cut to goal difference.

The chase is on for the final six games of the season, with Manchester United, West Ham and even Wolves still in the race.

Conte, below, whose team had seemed favourites after four straight wins before losing to Brighton last Saturday, said: “In this race it’s important to make the least mistakes possible.

“The team that is able to make the fewest mistakes from now until the end of the season can earn the possibility to play in the Champions League.”

He was happy to be in with a chance as he added: “We’ve done very well to be in this race. I want to stay until the end. We have to fight until the last second of the last game.”

Conte comes up against former Spurs star Christian Eriksen – the player he had at Inter Milan and who has made an astonishing comeback from his cardiac arrest – for the first time tomorrow, and said: “I’m very happy to see Christian play football again.

“Those images were terrible. We are talking about not only an important player, but a great person. To see him for a game will be a pleasure.” Conte believes that Erik ten Hag, unveiled yesterday as United’s new manager, has a massive job on his hands and said: “Don’t forget United were second last year. They improved the squad but are going worse than last season. “It’s not easy in England. You can sleep and finish in the relegation zone, or out of Europe.”
