Look out for Peter Kay’s live tour return, says pal

- By Mark Jefferies

PETER KAY may launch a new standup comedy tour soon – his first in 11 years – says his pal Jason Manford.

The comics have been good friends for over two decades after meeting at a comedy venue in Chorlton, Greater Manchester.

Speaking on a Dublin radio show, Jason, 40, said: “He’s great, Pete. We’ve known each other a long time, it must be 25 years.

“He’s just an absolute legend. What a treasure. Hopefully back himself soon, doing stand-up, so keep your eye out for his tour.”

Bolton-born Peter’s last major tour was in 2011.

Seven years later the 48-year-old was preparing to perform a 100-date

Live Arena Tour. But the sold-out extravaganza, due to kick off in April 2018, was cancelled in December 2017.

Peter issued a statement, which read: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.”

In spring 2020, the Car Share actor was scheduled to make a comeback with his Dance for Life charity gigs in London, Liverpool and

Manchester for Cancer Research UK. But the shows had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

In August 2021, Peter made his first public appearance in four years to raise money for the treatment of 21-year-old terminal brain cancer sufferer Laura Nuttall, of Barrowford, Lancs.

He received a standing ovation at the start of his comeback at Manchester’s O2 Apollo, the first of two charity Q&A shows, and told the crowd: “I’ve never in my life had a standing ovation when I came on.”

He then quipped: “I’m going to go away for four more years.”
