Pret and Aldi remove chicken wraps after salmonella warning
SANDWICH chain Pret A Manger has removed all items containing chicken from its shelves amid fears of a salmonella outbreak at suppliers.
The high street cafe said the sandwiches and wraps were being withdrawn“due to a potential food safety risk at a supplier”.
It described the move as “precautionary” and comes after budget supermarket Aldi recalled chicken wraps because of the possible presence of salmonella.
The risk has been identified at a site belonging to one of the retailer’s suppliers.
Pret previously advertised a Sriracha chicken salad wrap for its new menu but the item no longer appears on its website.
Other favourites including the chicken caesar bacon baguette, chef’s chicken salad and chicken and avocado sandwich are also not available, with a notice saying: “Oops, this product is currently not in our shops.” A Pret A Manger spokesman said: “As a precautionary measure, we’ve temporarily removed the majority of chicken items on our menu due to a potential food safety risk at one of our suppliers.
“We hope to have these back in shops soon.We apologise for any inconvenience.”
Aldi recalled its Eat and Go chicken and bacon caesar wrap and Eat and Go chicken and bacon caesar wrap triple. Contaminated items have use-by dates of May 11 and May 12.The Food StandardsAgency advised people not to eat them and to return them to the nearest store for a full refund. Last month 73 people in the UK, mostly children under five, were infected with salmonella in an outbreak linked to Kinder chocolate items.
