3 Definition MâconVilla­ges (£9.99, 13%)

Another fresh, largely unoaked chardonnay with flavours of peach and limes and a delicious fruity aroma upon opening. Available from Majestic.

4 Journey’s End Chardonnay (£10, 13%)

Hints of vanilla, tropical fruits and a just touch of oakiness combine with a long, creamy finish to produce a pleasant, moreish chardonnay from the Schapenber­g Hills in South Africa’s stunning Stellenbos­ch region. Available from Sainsbury’s.

5 The Society’s Australian Chardonnay (£8.50, 12.5%)

A white wine so sharp it should be dressed in a pin-striped suit and sporting a bowler hat and briefcase. Crisp, textured and very refreshing, aromas of white fruit and lemons precede a long finish. Available from The Wine Society.

6 Les Fleurs Sauvages Chardonnay 2020 (£9.99, 12%)

The French wine-making duo of Laurent Delaunay and Nerida Abbott deliver in spades from their boutique vineyard in the shadows of the Pyrenees. Aromas of pears, apples and hazelnut. Available from Majestic.
