‘We’ve got to turn it around’

- By Chris McKenna

FRANK LAMPARD knows Everton have no divine right to be in the Premier League – and he warned they could continue to struggle to stay there unless they get their transfer business right this summer.

The Toffees avoided the drop thanks to a dramatic comeback win over Crystal Palace on Thursday night.

But Lampard scoffed at the suggestion the Blues are too big to be in another relegation fight next season.

He said: “What right do Everton have to be Premier League safe every year?

“A lot of decisions have to be made. We need to find improvements but nothing is given.

“We were in that position because we deserved to be. It is important to say that.

“It is a great feeling but the things we can do to make it better are things we have to effect.”

Everton, who travel to Arsenal today four points above the drop zone, started the season with the controversial appointment of Rafa Benitez.

Farhad Moshiri has spent £500million since taking control of the club in 2016 and Financial Fair Play restrictions are hurting the Toffees.

It is unclear if they will have to sell to buy this year. Lampard, above, said: “We have to improve. I have to improve. I didn’t have a pre-season and now I do.

“Can we make the squad stronger and more balanced? I believe we can. It is important we look at things quickly.

“We don’t want to be here next season but we understand if we don’t make positive moves it is possible.”

Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jordan Pickford would command huge fees but Lampard said: “Let me keep players who perform really well for the club and let us keep as far up the table as we can.”
