Demise of ironmongers really gets on my wick

BUTLER’S was the ironmongers to go to in Doncaster. Sadly it closed several years ago (“Customers overwrought about the end of the ironmonger age”, June 29).

I feel sure it was the inspiration for the Two Ronnies’ “four candles” sketch.You would ask for some obscure item and the assistant would disappear to the other end of the shop and return with it.
