I’ll help bring the good times back

- By Jeremy Cross

TYRELL MALACIA has vowed to help Manchester United win again after becoming Erik ten Hag’s first signing as manager.

The Holland defender, 22, has joined United from Feyenoord for £13million after agreeing a four-year deal until June 2026. Malacia, who will join his new squad on the pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia, is convinced Ten Hag is the right man to restore the good times to Old Trafford. He said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. I know from playing against the manager’s teams in the Eredivisie the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players. “While I know I am young and will continue to develop, I can promise United fans I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the shirt. “I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given me and my family. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.” United football director John Murtough said: “Tyrell is an exciting, dynamic young footballer with excellent experience for his age, including five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final and full international honours for Holland.

“We look forward to seeing him continue to develop under the guidance of Erik ten Hag and his coaching team.”

But Robbie Fowler believes the summer has exposed a serious fault line in United’s transfer policy. And the Anfield legend, who also played for Manchester rivals City, believes Ten Hag must imitate Jurgen Klopp.

With Paul Pogba leaving on a free this summer and Cristiano Ronaldo pushing for a move, Fowler said: “I actually think Manchester United are in a bit of a mess.

“They paid David de Gea a fortune to keep him, but what did that mean? Instantly, players like Paul Pogba want parity. Ronaldo comes in and wants more than them. Then Pogba wants parity with him.

“It’s a vicious cycle. United need to maybe think of a reset. Take a look at Liverpool and see how they make incredibly tough decisions to keep their finances under control.”
