Play fair on fees Auntie
IT SEEMS unconscionable that the BBC would prosecute vulnerable viewers for non-payment of their TV licences. But that is precisely what is happening.
Older viewers, many already pained from the loss of the free licence in 2020 and now struck by the cost-of-living crisis, are struggling to pay their fees and there has been a corresponding rise in prosecutions.
Enough. We agree with legal charity Appeal and campaign group Silver Voices that the BBC, 100 years old this year, should stop criminalising poverty. There should be a moratorium for those in financial hardship, and the BBC should stop being so heavy-handed. Play fair, Auntie.
