- By Paul Jeeves

A BOY was yesterday charged with the murder of 14-year-old Tomasz Oleszak as his heartbroken family spoke of being “devastated beyond words”.

Football-mad Tomasz was found with a stab wound in the Springwell Estate area of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, just after 8pm on Monday.

He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday.

Northumbria Police have charged another youth of the same age with murder, attempted wounding with intent and having a bladed article in a public place.

The teenager, who cannot be named, appeared before Newcastle magistrates court and was remanded in custody to appear before the city’s crown court on Monday. Tomasz’s mother, Kamila, father Patryk and a younger brother, aged six, were yesterday being comforted by family and friends.

Kamila said: “Tomasz was an amazing son, a kind and caring role model to his little brother and a great friend to so many.As a family we are devastated beyond words.

“He was a talented, smart young man and a brilliant footballer. He had so much potential and his whole life ahead of him. He made us so proud to be his parents.

“We will never stop loving him.The hole left in our lives can never be filled. Our world has changed forever.

Police said a girl aged 13, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, had been bailed.

Brendan Robson, head teacher of Cardinal Hume Catholic School, in Gateshead, said: “As a much-loved and treasured pupil,Tomasz was a dedicated and committed young man who was the life and soul of his friendship group.”
