Pup and PM join Poppy parade

ROSS Kemp takes a paws from his busy life to help... while Rishi Sunak gets on board the poppy push by selling them at the Tube. The Prime Minister stunned commuters yesterday morning. including data analyst Lewis who donated £5 before joking that he wanted a receipt.

He said: "I didn't expect to meet the chap.

"I went to buy my ticket at Westminste­r station and he was there selling poppies with the military.”

Lewis said that having been critical of the way Mr Sunak ousted Boris Johnson, he “turns out to be okay”, adding he is “down to earth”.

The Prime Minister helped rally an enthusiast­ic queue of punters as he joined army personnel and civil servant Stephen le Roux.

The 42-year-old Tory leader held a tray of poppies and chatted to surprised passers-by during the brief appearance, put up on social media.

The Royal British Legion’s said they were “grateful to the PM for generously giving up his time to collect with us during the morning rush hour”.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace did his bit at Waterloo while a massive poppy was placed above a gun turret on HMS Belfast moored near London Bridge to add some firepower to the charity campaign. Other events in the capital included Legion ambassador Ross Kemp rallying the troops on Horse Guards Parade with members of the Irish Guards and their lugubrious Irish Wolfhound mascot Seamus.

Ross, 58, who played EastEnders’ hardman Grant Mitchell, joined more than 2,000 armed forces personnel, veterans and collectors out across the capital.

He said: “Money raised will help the charity continue its vital work supporting members of the Armed Forces Community in need.”
