‘Final offer’ from strike-hit Royal Mail
ROYAL Mail has put forward its “best and final offer” to union members in a long-running row over jobs, pay and conditions.
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have held a series of strikes recently, which the firm said had cost £100million.
A fresh 48-hour strike is due to be held today and tomorrow. Now Royal Mail claims its new offer boasts “extensive improvements”.
They include a pay deal of up to nine per cent over 18 months, as well as offering to develop a new profit share scheme for staff, and better voluntary redundancy terms. The company vowed not to make compulsory redundancies until the end of March 2023.
CEO Simon Thompson said: “Negotiations involve give and take, but it appears that the CWU’s approach is to just take. We want to reach a deal.”
