Tribute to party man Matthew

- By Sophie Watson

A TERMINALLY ill dad thrown his own special Christmas party by hundreds of people has died, his family said. Matthew Sandbrook, 37, was given just months to live in October last year after he was diagnosed with aggressive glioblastoma, a rare brain cancer. Doctors said the father of three was unlikely to see that Christmas and his family launched an online appeal to throw him a final festive bash.

More than 200 people including neighbours and even strangers arrived outside his home. Brave Matthew did have a final Christmas but died last Friday. His family said in a Facebook post: “The world lost a very precious, kind, loving, funny, hard-working family man taken from us too soon. He will always be in our hearts.”

Footage of Matthew opening his front door to cheers was seen thousands of times online, while the crowd sang carols and festive hits with even a fake snow machine and DJ laid on. His wife Rebecca and three sons Connor, Kyle and Tyler joined in the fun in Warndon, Worcs.

The funeral will take place at Worcester Crematorium on December 9.
