Qatar event would be fine without publicity seekers This minority preaching is what turns people off

THE main reason for the controversy over theWorld Cup in Qatar is because the competition has been hijacked by the LGBTQ brigade (Letters, November 22) who are being given considerably more publicity than their minority status dictates they should get. Alex Owen,

I AGREE that all people should be allowed to love whoever they wish. It should not be illegal to love someone of the same sex.

However I am tired of being preached to by this “minority”.

Everyone has this right, not just the LGBTQ community. Fifa is right to defend the laws of a host country. The mistake was to give Qatar this honour without the quid pro quo of evidence of change in its laws.
