Pep stays at City until 2025 but warns on future

- By David McDonell

PEP GUARDIOLA insists he still has unfinished business at Manchester City but warned he will leave when he has achieved all his ambitions.

Guardiola has signed a new deal until 2025 but left the door open to a departure once that expires.

The 51-year-old said:“I love my job and I have everything to do it. I cannot be in a better place now.

“The moment I don’t feel that, for family reasons, or I’ve achieved everything I want to achieve, or I don’t feel comfortable with the team, or it’s not a pleasure to fight for another Premier League, when these feelings disappear, I will step aside.

“That is normal in life. I am not eternal. Every day we are here, we are closer to the end. It is normal. But still I have this feeling there is something more to do. That is my feeling right now.

“That is why we continue together. I have the feeling we can do better. The job is not done. If I feel it’s done, the relationship would remain forever, and another chapter for both sides will be taken.”

Guardiola joined from Bayern Munich in 2016, and has won four of the past five Premier League titles.

But one glaring omission from his sparkling CV at City is the Champions League and Guardiola says there will be no let up in the pursuit of silverware.

“I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible,” he said. “I have the support and we discuss a lot about what we can do better – we have to do better.”

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak tried to get the Spaniard to sign the deal straight after last season’s title win.

Guardiola said: “Just after we won the Premier League, I flew to Abu Dhabi and, in that moment, we started the conversation. But that was not the right moment because I should talk with my family.”
