Harry OK after injury scare
ENGLAND breathed a huge sigh of relief yesterday as Harry Kane was cleared to continue at the World Cup after his scan scare.
The captain underwent a further medical assessment on Tuesday night after injuring an ankle in the 6-2 thrashing of Iran. But there is understood to be no major concerns and the striker has been cleared to play on at the tournament and could face USA tomorrow. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said: “He will probably
be a little bit sore but I think he’s fine.
“He’s out on the grass with us today and that’s good. He’s our captain and he’s fine.
“Harry is an unbelievable player, he sets the example in the squad, he’s a leader, he’s the captain and we all look up to him.” Pickford’s sentiments were echoed by Kyle Walker, who then turned his thoughts to tomorrow and the team’s second clash of the finals.
The defender said: “H is good. Obviously, the lads that have played the other day have done a more relaxed training session than us that have not been involved. So, listen, we’re moving on to Friday and the three points is the main thing that we’re wanting to qualify from this group.”
Gareth Southgate, right, is expected to stick with a back four against USA, with Harry Maguire recovering from the illness that led to him being substituted
against Iran in the second half. Callum Wilson did not train in a light session with the rest of the substitutes at England’s Al Wakrah training base yesterday, but is not considered a fitness doubt.
