Spain target added pain for Germany
SPAIN are on a mission to send Germany packing from the World Cup.
Luis Enrique’s players opened their campaign with a 7-0 annihilation of Costa Rica, hours after the Germans had suffered defeat by Japan.
Another loss on Sunday would spell the end for the four-time world champions, if Costa Rica fail to beat Japan in the earlier game.
Spain midfielder Dani Olmo, who plays for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, said: “We know what a win for us will mean.
“We have made a good start but we must treat the game against Germany like a final.
“Qualification is our first aim but...”
Spain scored with all seven shots they had on target against Costa Rica – and six of Enrique’s side found the net.
Olmo said: “It is a good sign that six players scored. That will give us confidence.”
Spain showed in 2010, when they lost to Switzerland, that it is possible to lose your first game and still lift the trophy.
Marco
Asensio said: “Germany will be difficult because they are still a very good team.”
