Newborn ‘murdered by mum, 15, with wool’

- By Richard Vernalls

A TEENAGE mother murdered her newborn baby by fracturing his skull and forcing cotton wool into his throat, then put the body in a bin bag, a court has heard.

Paris Mayo is accused of killing Stanley Mayo in 2019 at her parents’ home where she lived, in the hours after his birth.

At Worcester Crown Court yesterday, the jury heard that Mayo – now 19 but 15 at the time – delivered the infant unaided while her parents were upstairs.

She then allegedly assaulted the infant, fracturing “the upper left and upper right sides of the skull and causing a severe brain injury”.

Two hours later, she realised Stanley was still alive and “stuffed pieces of cotton wool into his mouth, throat and neck”, the jury heard.

Streaks

Mayo then allegedly put his body in a bin bag outside in Ross-onWye, Herefordshire, and texted her brother to put the bag into the bin, writing: “It’s just full of sick from last night, please.”

The girl’s mother found the body after the bag left “streaks” of blood by the front door, the court was told, and during a 999 call operators heard her telling Mayo: “You could have told me, darling.”

Mayo told paramedics she used cotton wool to wipe away fluid coming out of Stanley’s mouth and that she “didn’t know she was pregnant”.

She allegedly said at hospital: “It’s not my fault the baby died, is it? His head hit the floor…I was waiting for a noise.”

Prosecuting barrister Jonas Hankin KC said Mayo “killed the baby to prevent the discovery of her pregnancy and his birth. She didn’t want the baby”.

Mayo, of Ruardean, Glos, denies wrongdoing.

The trial continues.
