‘Tell Sir Keir Brexit is now done and dusted’

- By Martyn Brown

BREXIT is “done”, said Rishi Sunak and his government has followed through on the vote’s result.

The Prime Minister said Britain had debated about EU withdrawal “multiple times” since 2016.

His comments come amid concerns Labour would undo the Brexit deal, with plans to lower trade barriers with the EU within 18 months after entering Downing Street.

In Hiroshima, where he is attending the G7 summit, Mr Sunak was pressed on why the Tories’ trade deal was “unsatisfactory”.

He said: “We’ve delivered the result of the referendum.

“We have actually an incredibly deep trade deal with the EU…

“With regard to electric vehicles, we’re having a dialogue with [the EU].

“Many car manufacturers around Europe have raised [concerns] so we’re looking at ways that it might be addressed.”

The PM was referring to electric vehicle tariffs the EU plans to introduce next year, noting that he hopes they will consider not doing so.

Sir Keir provoked fury by saying wants to reach new agreements with the EU to make it easier to trade food, medicines and animals.

Regular summits would be held between the EU and UK, with a new UK-EU security pact being the target.

Labour also wants to rejoin the Dublin agreement, which would mean illegal migrants could be returned to the nation of first arrival.

Mr Sunak also insisted he is not bothered by the Labour leader’s increasingly personal attacks, adding: “I haven’t really actually focused on it or seen all of it…I don’t think most people sitting at home actually are much bothered about these things either.”

Sir Keir stood by Labour’s attack ad that accused the PM of not wanting to see child abusers jailed and has questioned his and his wife’s reported £740million wealth.
