To get the Treble will stamp our mark as one of greatest teams of all time in the Premier League

CITY EYE PLACE IN HISTORY

MANCHESTER CITY’S players celebrated a third straight Premier League title and immediately set their sights on an historic treble.

Kyle Walker led calls for his team- mates to stay focused and hungry so they can add FA Cup and Champions League victories to secure the treble.

And he admitted that if things go according to plan, Pep Guardiola’s side could go down as one of the greatest teams of all time.

The England defender, 32, said: “We’re not finished, we’ve got the FA Cup against our bitter rivals and the Champions League final on June 10.

“We will enjoy it today, we will have a few glasses of Champagne but then we move onto June, which is the big one.

“Hopefully, we can create history with this great club.

“It would be fantastic to complete the treble, but there’s a lot of football to be played before we start thinking about that. We have two massive finals.

“To say we’re up there with the greatest Premier League teams of all time, we have to go and conquer some of that. We’ve done the formidables and the centurions, but to go and get this we can really stamp our mark on being one of the greatest teams of all time in the Premier League.”

City, who trailed Arsenal by eight points in early April, albeit with a game in hand, were handed the title by the Gunners’ defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

And it has been a relentless drive towards a third straight title, with 12 Premier League wins in a row since mid-February.

England forward Jack Grealish said: “Since the last international break we just feel unstoppable, especially in April.

“That’s probably one of the strongest months this club has ever had. We won eight games out of nine (since April 22) and drew one at Bayern Munich.

“We’ve got so much talent in this squad and we feel unstoppable.”

Kevin De Bruyne saluted the hard work that has gone into the fifth title of his City career.

He said: “People expect us to win a lot but we work every day for this. People sacrifice a lot for the team. It is tougher physically than it is mentally because you have to go and go again.

“I have been here for eight years. This is my home and the amazing moments

keep on coming. I want to win more and keep going. It is two games now we need to get ready for.”

Bernardo Silva urged City to keep the intensity going from now until the end of the season or risk losing their edge with the two biggest games to come.

“We will be competitive and be respectful for our final two games in the Premier League. We want to win all three. If we switch off it will be difficult to switch back on for the two finals.”

Losing manager Frank Lampard claimed City were the benchmark against which Chelsea should measure themselves as they try to rebuild from their annus horribilis.

“They are outstanding and that is why they are on for a possible treble. Their level for the past two months or longer has been outstanding,” he said.

“They have built it for years, with incredible vision and brought in a great coach and players. So they are the benchmark. City have not won three in a row through half intensity, they have had to work and work and work.

“The players have to understand that. They have to put in the work. It is something they have to strive towards.”
